Members and friends of the Adventist church who are interested in
improving their fitness and health are invited to join. It is easy to join.
Follow the 5 simple steps below (or ask you local InStep for
Life coordinator for help enrolling).
Step 1. Download Your Starter Kit

Which includes a welcome letter from Reg Burgess, NAD InStep for Life
Director, a Registration form, Instructions for Getting Started, an article
on the Benefits of Physical Activity, a Physical Activity Readiness
Questionnaire (PAR-Q), Exercise Guidelines, and a 13-Week Exercise Record
Log.
Step 2. Order Your Pedometer
(Order Online)
With the help of an inexpensive pedometer you can count your daily steps.
You may also be able to get your pedometer from your local church InStep for
Life coordinator. Research shows that people who use a pedometer naturally
walk more than those without one (order
form to order by mail)
We also recommend you order a copy of the book "Step Into Fitness and
Health" by Dr. Don Hall, which is designed to help you develop your personal fitness program by walking and using a pedometer (available
now). The book also includes information on strength training and flexibility, weight
management, nutrition, and healthy living guidelines for preventing disease.
Step 3. Start Walking
You are probably already walking 2-4,000 steps a day. The InStep for Life
goal is to work up to walking 8-10,000 steps a day! You can also log your
physical activity as miles or minutes of activity daily if you don't have a
pedometer. Invite a family member or friend to join you!
Step 4. Log Your Physical Activity Daily
You are more likely to succeed in your fitness program if you have a
daily goal and write down your progress toward that goal daily. It's also
fun to see how you progress over time. Use the 13-Week Exercise Record
Log.
Keep it in a visible site (e.g. refrigerator door or bedroom mirror) to
remind you daily.
Step 5. Join GetFit Adventures
Stay motivated by logging
your steps (or miles) online. As you log your daily activity on GetFit
Adventures™ you can complete virtual trips around the world, such as walking
the Scenic
Oregon Coast or across Italy, touring the Holy Land,
and many others. As you reach mileposts, see pictures of where you are
walking, read interesting facts about your trip, and explore web links of
the region. You will also earn mileage awards and a certificate of
completion as you finish your journey.
